Full Time Rental Equipment Mechanic

Job Summary

Heavy equipment mechanics work with vehicles and machines used in farming and construction to inspect, repair, and maintain them. It requires more than just engine repair. Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, fuel, and brake components are a must. You will primarily be responsible for the repair, service, and maintenance of rental equipment in the shop and in the field at the customer’s job site. This could include troubleshooting and repairing diesel, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical equipment. At times you will operate from a service truck and will be required to perform preventative maintenance services as well.


  1. The maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems on a variety of rental and customer equipment and tools.
  2. Occasional travel to customer’s job sites.
  3. Dismantle and reassemble/rebuild equipment; fabricate parts and equipment as required to meet shop and customer needs; diagnose complex mechanical equipment problems.
  4. Verify findings, review readings of gauges and procedures, and compare to manufactures specs. Then install, replace, rebuild, or repair the parts and/or equipment in a timely manner and according to specifications.
  5. Must be able to operate equipment such as booms, forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, hydraulic and electrical tools and equipment, and related tools and equipment.
  6. Satisfy in a timely manner, all required documentation, timesheets, checklists, receiving records, and repair order logs.
    Conduct preventive maintenance to avoid unnecessary repairs and downtime in the field and maintain company vehicles.
  7. Work independently with little to no supervision at times, while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.


  1. All applicants must have 3-5 years of experience in heavy equipment repairs or similar and maintaining vehicles. A high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license are required.
  2. Own the tools applicable to position and ability to safely and effectively use them
  3. Communicate equipment issues and understand job assignments.
  4. Ability to understand schematics and diagrams.
  5. Ability to prioritize work assignments but also be flexible when plans change.
  6. Must be dependable and report to work on time, regular overtime available.

Desired Job Skills

  1. A post-secondary degree in heavy equipment mechanics or similar is desired
